The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art with a concentration in Studio Art is a four-year liberal arts degree designed for students who want a strong foundation in studio practice while exploring broader academic interests across the University. 

Our studio program offers courses in:

  • Ceramics
  • Drawing
  • Glass
  • Metals + Jewelry
  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Printmaking
  • Sculpture
  • Video and New Media

Students begin in our First-Year Foundations Program which nurtures their interests and skills through classes in drawing, 2D, 3D, and 4D. Intermediate classes focus on developing practical skills in a variety of mediums and methods. Advanced courses center on building theoretical and technical competencies in studio practices. Students may focus on one of the mediums listed above or craft their own interdisciplinary path. Students also explore other interests across the university and are encouraged to incorporate those interests into their artistic production. 

Throughout the program, students develop a variety of skills:

  • Critical and conceptual thinking
  • Visual problem-solving across multiple media
  • Planning and executing creative projects
  • Art history, theory, and professional communication 

Interdisciplinary Pathways and Career Opportunities

With just 49 credit hours required in the major, the BA in Studio Art is ideal for pairing with a second major or minor. Common pairings include:

  • Art History (for careers in museums or galleries)
  • Psychology (for those pursuing graduate work in art therapy)
  • Chemistry (for careers in art conservation)
  • Business Administration (for students interested in entrepreneurship or running a studio)
